Theatre has the ability to transport you to another place or another time, to put you in someone else’s shoes, to see things from a different perspective, to help you connect with the Gospel in a unique way. This can be so powerful when you see how a prisoner felt before being crucified with Christ, a man who lost his wife is encouraged to enjoy the family that remains with him, or missionaries demonstrate their commitment to Christ and to people who don’t know Him by sacrificing their lives. Sometimes all we need is to laugh a little, while at other times we need to hear something specific from God.
Catalyst Theatre Company does all this by presenting musicals, full-length plays, and one-act plays. We do that at seasonal events (such as Christmas and Easter), performing at Cedar Park Church (our home church) and tour to other churches as well as prisons and youth detention centers all over Washington state. We also integrate with the other worship and arts ministries at Cedar Park Church to provide an enriching experience to all who attend a Cedar Park production or service.
As a ministry of Cedar Park Church in Bothell, WA, Catalyst is made up of volunteers from the Seattle area who are not just about performing but about being ministers of Christ. We are not about promoting ourselves, our talents, or our ministry. We are about coming alongside ministers to further their efforts to inspire the saints and to share the Gospel.
Catalyst is led by David and Michelle Potter who founded the ministry in September of 1998. The members of the team include people from all walks of life, including engineers, business owners, teachers, stay-at-home moms, etc.
