History of Catalyst Theatre
20 years ago, through a desire to create opportunities to share the Gospel through dramatic story telling, Catalyst Theatre was born. It was founded by David and Michelle Potter to fulfill a need they had for ministry and fellowship. They started small with a few people focusing on short sketches which blossomed into one-act plays and eventually full-length productions. An opportunity for a mission’s Sunday message led them to touring to local area churches and a partnership with Prisoner’s for Christ, which led to many years of outreach ministry within prison walls providing HOPE and bringing messages that made a difference in people’s lives.
In 2014, just 5 years ago, the next phase of Catalyst began when they joined collaborative forces with Tom and Denise Diffee, whose musical theatre experience has been indispensable. In God’s infinite wisdom and perfect timing, they were ready for the next phase of their growth. Catalyst started producing musical theatre and over these last 5 years, they have produced 3 Broadway-style musicals, two of which were original world premieres (Katie’s Hope and A Light in the Attic). Add to the mix Steve Richards, a talented musical composer/song writer and you have a team of artists that are destined for great works!
Future of Catalyst Theatre
David and Michelle have always believed that God birthed Catalyst Theatre as a ministry and He has led them on this journey each step of the way. In 2018, they started asking the question, “Are we ready to take the next step in our growth and trust God and step out in faith?” God has graciously provided ministry-minded, skilled, hard-working people to take Catalyst to the next step and in March 2019, they elected their first board of directors and continue to work on preparations to become a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. They are thrilled to have a board that shares ministry values and will help lead the organization to achieve its mission:
To provide quality theatrical entertainment by telling stories of faith, hope, and love as we build an artistic community that gives opportunities to grow in creativity and craft.
and our vision:
Theatre that brings hope and makes a difference
